Baking Bread Bowl

I love baking bread; the way the dough comes together, so smooth and soft; like a baby's bottom.  I love seeing the dough slowly rising, inching it's way up the bowl, finally knowing that I didn't kill the yeast.

I love when the warm smells start to seep out of the oven; signaling that the bread will soon be ready for slicing and lathered with butter with a sprinkling of cinnamon-sugar. YUMMY!

I love the feeling of .. 'hey I made that'.  And I LOVE not having to pay $5.00 for a decent loaf of bread wrapped in plastic (the price we pay for living in paradise!)

I've been eyeing this bread baking bowl on etsy from the neal pottery shop.

Doesn't the bread look beautiful?  The bowl will make a small loaf size; enough for 2 or 3 hungry folks.  Maybe if I'm good Santa will put this under the tree for me...ahhh, me good? never!.. I am what I am and that's all that I am.

I'm always on the look out for a good bread recipe.  This Amish White Bread recipe from the Allrecipes web site is a family favorite.  The taste is on the sweet side; which is why I love it but you can cut down the sugar if you'd like.  The recipe makes two loaves but I had no problem with halving the recipe for a single loaf.


Makes 2 9x5 loaves.

2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45
degrees C)
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour
1. In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water, and then stir in yeast. Allow to proof until yeast resembles a creamy foam.
2. Mix salt and oil into the yeast. Mix in flour one cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in a well oiled bowl, and turn dough to coat. Cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.
3. Punch dough down. Knead for a few minutes, and divide in half. Shape into loaves, and place into two well oiled 9x5 inch loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes, or until dough has risen 1 inch above pans.
4. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes.
